Use of Eco-Friendly UV-C LEDs for Indoor Environment Sanitization: A Narrative Review

Background: The current COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated the enormous importance of maintaining good hygienic conditions in everyday indoor environments for prevention infectious diseases. This includes sanitization methods capable significantly reducing microbial load air and on surfaces. However, line with ecological transition, alternative systems environmental reduced impact are urgently needed. photocatalytic reaction using UV-C light-emitting diode (UV-C LED) lamps short wavelengths, especially range 200–280 nanometers (nm), can reduce load, safeguarding environment thanks to energy consumption. objective this review is describe latest innovations use LED technology environments, reporting fundamental principles which its activity relies. Methods: Two databases (PubMed, Web Science), were searched, following PRISMA guidelines. Results: A total 1348 publications identified, 379 assessed detail and, these, 16 included review. Conclusions: literature highlighted that LEDs irradiation represents a valid, eco-sustainable method could be exploited as an chemical compounds contain microbiological pollution living working environments.
